18v15: ' Sarah was afraid, so she lied and said, "I did not laugh." But he (the Lord) said, "Yes, you did laugh,"         The Lord knows everything!

19v29: 'So when God destroyed the cities of the plain (Sodom and Gomorrah - sexual sin and godlessness) he remembered Abraham, and he brought Lot out of the catastrophe that overthrew the cities where Lot had lived.'

21v1: 'Now the LORD was gracious to Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did for Sarah what he had promised.'

22v5: Abraham said 'We will worship and then we will come back to you.' He believed that God had power to raise Isaac, his son, from the dead.

24v14: Rebekah said 'Drink my Lord.......I'll I draw water for your camels too' Just as the servant had prayed - We can ask God for signs!

24v58: "I WILL GO," Rebekah said.

24v67: 'So she (Rebekah) became his wife, and he loved her,'

45v5: Joseph said to his brothers 'Do not be distressed and angry with yourselves for selling me.....it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you.'  (like Jesus' life)

EXODUS

4v31: 'And when they (Isrealites) heard that the Lord was concerned about them and had seen their misery, they bowed down and worshipped.'

9v5: 'The Lord set a time and said 'Tomorrow the LORD will do this in the land,' And the next day the LORD did it.

13v16: 'And it will be like a sign on your hand and a symbol on your forehead that the Lord brought us out of Egypt....'  

14v14 'The Lord will fight for you, you only need to be still'

15v26 'I am the Lord who heals you'

16v18 '....and each one gathered as much as he needed'

LEVITICUS

17v11 'For the life of a creature is in it's blood'

18v24 'Do not defile yourself in any of these ways (sexual) because this is how the nations that I am going to drive out before you became defiled'

19v17 ' Do not hate your brother in you heart. Rebuke your neighbour frankly so that you will not share in his guilt'

19v32 'Rise in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly and revere your God. I am the Lord'

19v33 ' When an alien lives with you in your land, do not ill-treat him....Love him as yourself.... for you were aliens in Egypt'

20v7 ' Consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am the Lord your God. Keep my decrees and follow them. I am the LORD who makes you holy'

26v3 ' if you follow my decrees and are careful to obey my commands, I will send you rain in its season..........you will eat all the food you want and live in safety in your land'

26v14 ' But if you do not listen to me......I will set my face against you...'

NUMBERS

DEUTERONOMY

3v22 ' Do not be afraid of them; the LORD your God himself will fight for you'

4v29 'But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all you soul...The LORD your God is a merciful God; he will not abandon or destroy you...'

4v40 'Keep his decrees and commands, which I am giving you today, so that it may go well with you and your children after you...'

5v6 THE TEN COMMANDMENTS

6v4 ' Hear, O Isreal: The LORD is our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts'. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the door-frams of your houses and on your gates'

8v2 ' Remember how the LORD your God led you all the way in the desert these forty years, to humble you and to test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands'

8v10 'When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the LORD your God ...'

11v8 'Observe therefore all the commands I am giving you today, so that you may have the strength......and may live long....'

11v16 'Be careful, or you will be enticed to turn away and worship other gods and bow down to them.'

11v18 ' Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; .......Teach them to your children......'

11v22 ' If you carefully observe all these commands - to love the LORD your God, to walk in his ways and to hold fast to him.....No man will be able to stand against you'

11v26 'See I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse - a blessing if you obey the commands of the Lord your God...; the curse if you disobey the commands of the Lord your God'

16v 19 'Do not accept a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and twists the words of the righteous. Follow justice and justice alone..'

17v14 'When you say 'let us have a king over us like all the other nations...' ' God knew they would ask for a king (Saul) in the future.

18v 17 ' I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers; I will put my words in his mouth and he will tell them everything i command him......' God the father, telling the Jewish people that Jesus will be sent to them in the future.

19v19 'You must purge the evil from among you' (we can do this with Jesus' help)

20v1 'When you go to war against your enemies and see horses and chariots and an army greater than yours, DO NOT BE AFRAID OF THEM because the Lord your God ..... will be with you'

20v16 'Do not leave anything alive....otherwise they will teach you to follow detestable things....and you will sin against the Lord'

21v22 'a man guilty of a capital offence....must not hang overnight.............will be under a curse...' (Jesus was buried before nightfall)

23v14 'For the Lord your God moves about in your camp to protect you .....You must be holy, so that he will not see anything indecent and turn away from you.'

29v19 'When a person hears the words of this oath, he thinks 'I will be safe even though I persist in going my own way'. This will bring disaster on the watered land as on the dry'

29v29 'The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and our children for ever...'

30v15 'See I set before you life and prosperity, death and destruction...'

30v19 'Now chose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord...'

32v3 'I will proclaim the name of the LORD. Oh, praise the greatness of our God! He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he.'

32v6 'Is he not your Father, your Creator, who made you and formed you?'

32v39 'See now that I myself am He! There is no god beside me. I put to death and I bring to life, I have wounded and I will heal....'

32v46 'Take to heart all my words............They are not just idle words for you - they are your life...'

JOSHUA

1v3 The Lord said to Joshua, 'I will give you every place you set your foot'

1v9 'Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.'

5v12 'The manna stopped the day after they ate food from the land.' (God had brought them home!)

5v13 Joshua meets the 'commander of the army of the Lord'  (Jesus?)

7v12 'That is why the Isrealites cannot stand against their enemies; they turn their backs and run because they have been made liable to destruction' (Achans sin).     If we willingly allow sin into our lives we too, open ourselves up to problems....

9v14 'Then the men of Israel sampled their provisions, BUT DID NOT ENQUIRE OF THE LORD.....' (and it went wrong for them)

10v11 'The Lord hurled large hailstones down on them from the sky, more died from the hailstones than from the sword...'

10v13 'The sun stopped in the middle of the sky...There has never been a day like it before or since...'

21v45 'Not one of the LORD'S good promises to the house of Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.'

22v 5 'Love the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to obey his commands, to hold fast to him and to erve him with all your heart and all your soul'

22v18 'If you rebel against the LORD today, tomorrow he will be angry ....'

24v15 And Joshua said 'But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD'

29v29 'After these things, Joshua son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died at the age of 110'

 

JUDGES

1V28 'When Israel became strong, they pressed the Canaanites into forced labour but never drove them out completely.' (as God had told them to)

Israel's Downfall begins...........

2v 19 'But when their judges died the people returned to ways even more corrupt than those of their fathers, following other gods and serving and worshipping them.'

2v15 'Once again the Israelites cried out to the LORD and he gave them a deliverer..'

5v2 'When the people willingly offer themselves - praise the Lord!'

6v15 'But Lord,' Gideon asked, 'How can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manassah, and I am the least in my family?' The LORD answered, 'I will be with you...' (like David and Joseph)

6v 37 - Gideon lays out fleece to discover the Lord's will

 

1 SAMUEL

2v25 'If a man sins against another man, God may mediate for him; but if a man sins against the LORD, who will intercede for him?'  (Thankfully now we have Jesus!)

3v1 'The boy Samuel ministered before the Lord under Eli. In those days the word of the LORD was rare; there were not many visions'

3v13 'For I told him that I would judge his family for ever because of the sin he knew about'  (Thankfully now we have forgiveness if we come to Jesus)

4v11 'The slaughter was very great; Israel lost 30 000 foot soldiers. The ark of God was captured, and Eli's two sons Hophni and Phinehas, died.'

5v1 'They carried the ark into Dagons temple and set it beside Dagon. When the people of Ashdod arose early the next day, there was Dagon, fallen on his face on the ground before the ark of the LORD.'

8v4 '....the elders of Israel gathered together...They said to Samuel 'You are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways; appoint a king to lead us, such as all the other nations have.'   God's prophecy came true.

10v6 Samuel said to Saul, 'The Spirit of the Lord will come upon you in power, and you will prophesy with them; and you will be changed into a different person.'

13v13 'You have acted foolishly' Samuel said 'You have not kept the command he LORD your God gave you; if you had, he would have established your kingdom over israel for all time, but now your kingdom will not endure...'

14v15 'Then panic struck the whole army........and the ground shook.........it was a panic sent from God'

15v 11 'Samuel was troubled and he cried out to the LORD all that night'

15v24 'Saul said to Samuel 'I was afraid of the people and so I gave in to them.'' Saul was a weak leader, more afraid of people than of God.

15v29 'He who is the Glory of Israel does not lie or change his mind; for he is not a man, that he should change his mind.'

15v 35 'And the LORD was grieved that he made Saul king over Israel.'

DAVID IS CHOSEN

16v7 'The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.'

16v13 'the Spirit of the LORD came upon David in power.'

26v12 'They were all sleeping, because the LORD had put them into a deep sleep.'

26v 22 'The LORD rewards every man for his righteousness and faithfulness.'

30v6 'But David found strength in the LORD his God.'

 

2 SAMUEL

5v19 'so David enquired of the LORD,....'

5v23 'so David enquired of the LORD...'

5v25 'so David did as the LORD had commanded him,....'

6v14 'David,...danced before the LORD with all his might.'

6v 21 David said 'I will celebrate before the LORD. I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes...'

7v18 King David said 'Who am I. O Sovereign LORD, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far?.........'

8v15 'The LORD gave David victory wherever he went. David reigned over all Israel, doing what was just and right for all his people

10v 12 Joab said 'The LORD will do what is good in his sight.'

DAVID'S FALL

11v 3 'The woman was very beautiful, and David sent somone to find out about her.....'  David sent somone...he decided to give in to tempeation instead of fleeing from it.

11v 27 'This thing which David had done displeased the Lord.'

12v 9 Nathan the prophet, said to David 'Why did you despise the Word of the LORD by doing what is evil in his eyes?'

12v 11 'This is what the LORD says, 'Out of your own household I am going to bring calamity upon you...' God will forgive our sin, but there is often a consequence of what we have done...

12v 13 Then David said to Nathan, 'I have sinned against the LORD'. Honesty before God is the first step towards receiving God's forgiveness and healing.

 

 

 

 

 

THE NEW TESTAMENT

MATTHEW'S GOSPEL 

1, 21  - Give Him the name Jesus , because he will save his people from their sins.

 

3 v 8 – John the baptist – produce fruit in keeping with repentance

 

3 11 – I baptize you with water for repentance

 

4 v 1 – Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert..

 

4 23 – Jesus preached the Good News of the Kingdom (and healing every disease)

 

5 1-11 Blessed are :

5 16 – let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise you father in heaven

 

5 21 – anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgement

 

5 24 – be reconciled with your brother before you offer your gift to God

 

5 34 – let your yes be yes and your no be no

 

5 38 – do not resist an evil person

 

5 44 – love your enemies, pray for them that persecute you

 

6 4 – do your giving in secret

 

6 6 – when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your father who is unseen. Then he who sees what is done in secret will reward you

 

6 8 – your father knows your needs before you ask him

 

6 15 – if you do not forgive men their sins, your father will nor forgive your sins

 

6 21 – where your treasure is, there will your heart also be

 

6 25 – do not worry about your life

 

6 33 – seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given unto you

 

7 1 – do not judge, or you too will be judged

 

7 7 – ask and it will be given to you, knock and the door will be opened

 

7 12 – In everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, this sums up the Law and the prophets

 

7 15 watch out for false prophets – by their fruit will you recognise them

 

7 21 – not everyone who says ‘Lord Lord’, will enter the Kingdom , but only he who does the will of the Father

 

7 26 – everyone who hears my words but does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand
